Moranbah Community's Last Chance to Oppose 100% FIFO

THE Moranbah community is about to convene one last time to express its opposition to 100% fly-in, fly-out (FIFO) workforces to the State Government.

Hundreds of angry residents and small business owners are expected to attend a community meeting on Tuesday that may be one of the biggest held in the Moranbah township. It comes a month after BMA lodged an application to increase its FIFO workforce from 70% to 100% at its Caval Ridge Mine, near Moranbah.

Queensland Mining Communities president Kelly Vea Vea urged those against BMA's plans to attend the meeting.

C[pounds sterling]This will be our region's last chance to send a strong message to the Government that our region won't cop 100% fly-in, fly-out from BMA or any other company,C[yen] she said.

C[pounds sterling]This application is bad for families, bad for communities and bad for Central Queensland's economy because 100% of any economic benefit will fly out with this project. …
