Sharks End Season on a Winning Note; Best Result for the Team in Six Years of the State League Competition

NETBALL: Mackay's Whitsunday Leopard Sharks went out in a blaze of glory in their final matches in the State League at Rockhampton on the weekend.

Although narrowly failing to make the finals, the Leopard Sharks won both matches to end with their best season.

It is the team's most successful result in the competition which started six years ago.

In the first game against the Yellow Cab Lions, the Sharks took out every quarter to be victorious by 15 goals, with a final score of 56-41.

Goal shoot Claudia Jones was on song with an accuracy of 88.9% and captain Justine Holmberg in goal defence was another standout.

At no stage were they really threatened, with all players at their best.

Sunday's game against third-placed Golden South Jaguars proved more difficult with the visitors taking out the first quarter and at one stage the Sharks were down by seven.

However, the Sharks dug deep and won the remaining quarters to win 50-40. …
