School Facebook Blitz; Education Queensland to Report Students to Police and Principals over Lewd Web Sites

FACEBOOK misdemeanours will cop a caning in the future as Education Queensland clamps down on cyber misbehaviour.

Sunshine Coast school students involved in lewd Facebook groups will be reported to their principals and to police.

A spokesman from the state department said it would try to shut down a new vulgar Facebook page after it was brought to their attention by the Sunshine Coast Daily.

More than 300 people, including many teenage students from Coast schools, have signed up to the profile named Hookup Rater.

The posts on the site rated the sexual performance of dozens of people. The descriptions are too vulgar to print.

Education Queensland assistant director general David O'Hagan said the department would seek to shut down any social networking site that had ainappropriate, offensive or threatening content involving state school studentsa.

aAny students identified on such sites will be reported to their school principal and serious instances will be referred to police,a Mr O'Hagan said.
