Couple Arrested in DEA Bust of Meth Lab

Article excerpt

A North Jacksonville couple are under arrest on drug charges after authorities busted a methamphetamine laboratory late Wednesday at 2624 Clyde Drive, according to the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration.

Melissa Rae Bradford, 31, was charged with armed manufacture of methamphetamine and is ineligible for bail. Richard Olin Dunn, 38, was charged with selling methamphetamine and is being held on $100,000 bail, according to Duval County jail records.

DEA supervisory special agent Mark Baughman said the trailer, only a mile from Martin Luther King Elementary, had an "active lab" inside. Agents went in wearing hazardous material suits with air masks.

"You have the possibility for an explosion or fire," Baughman said. "There are also vapors and gases released during the manufacturing process, some you can't even smell. It does get into your system and can cause health problems."

ROBBER FORCES VICTIM, 80, TO WITHDRAW $480

An 80-year-old Navy veteran was kidnapped at gunpoint from his Westside home early Thursday and led on a two-hour-long quest for cash, police said. And it may not have been the first time the kidnapper stole money from the man.

The robber broke into the victim's house in the 7500 block of Impala Lane about 2 a.m. and demanded money. The victim said someone had stolen his wallet and car keys the day before. The gunman said he had taken them, then he handed the keys back and ordered the victim to drive him to an ATM. The victim eventually withdrew $480 from First Coast Atlantic Bank at 5665 Normandy Blvd.

No arrest has been made.
