Grand Prize Awaits Ladies Winner

AS the winner of the 2010 Journal Ladies' Trophy, Susan Dinning enjoyed a memorable sun-kissed mini-break when she made use of the first prize last month.

Dinning and husband John, who caddied for her when she won last year's Grand Final, occupied the bridal suite at Close House Hotel for a night, ate "a beautiful meal" in the award winning Bewickes restaurant and played two enjoyable rounds on The Filly.

The 2011 tournament gets under way today with a similar experience at Rockliffe Hall awaiting this season's Grand Final winner.

Said Rockliffe's Golf and Events director Ian Knight: "We are confident whoever triumphs this time will be just as pleased with their prize.

"The winner of this year's Grand Final at Rockliffe will be tasting the fare of our award winning TV chef, Kenny Atkinson, in our Orangery as well enjoying as the two rounds of golf and the stay-over."

But although Dinning says she would love to play at Rockliffe, there is no chance of her making it two Journal wins in a row.

She said: "I moved clubs from Roseberry Grange to Hetton-le-Hill, who are not in the Journal Ladies Trophy this year. But I did not switch because of all that fuss about the council thinking of closing Roseberry down.

"In fact, I am delighted to see the members are running it themselves now and they are making a good job of it.

"They are all pitching in doing jobs round the place to make a go of it. They will make it work, where there's a will there's a way."

Now retired, Dinning is able to take advantage of Hetton's Elemore course - at the end of her back garden.

She explained: "When I was working, it did not suit me because Hetton have their ladies competition in the day during the working week.

"Roseberry have their women's events at weekends, so I could play in club competitions there when I was working. …
