Firefighters in Test of State Champions

Article excerpt

QUEENSLAND Fire and Rescue Service (QFRS) personnel will battle it out next month in a competition to decide the state's firefighter champions.

The 2011 Queensland Firefighter Championship will be held on August 12 and 13 at the Rockhampton Heritage Village.

This prestigious annual event is a great opportunity for emergency service personnel and members of the local community to see some of our state's best firefighting teams in action.

Teams will perform drills and display their skills to the public, showcasing the teamwork and dedication firefighters display every day as they respond to a range of emergency incidents.

Each team will be judged on their technical capability and performance.

Each activity reflects firefighters' everyday duties and promotes teamwork and skills maintenance.

QFRS Central Region Assistant Commissioner Neil Gallant said firefighter competitions provided firefighters with the opportunity to build stronger teams and come together to learn and practise their skills in a competitive environment.
