A Ware County couple returned home from vacation to an unwelcome surprise Monday: thieves had hauled off much of their furniture, appliances and personal belongings.

"It's pretty low-down," Lt. Jody Ponsell of the Sheriff's Office said about the burglary that Timmy and Miranda Baxley discovered shortly before 7 p.m. Monday at their home in the 2300 block of Harvey Thrift Road.

The Baxleys couldn't be reached for comment Tuesday.

The number listed as their home phone had a recording stating it was disconnected.

Ponsell said the couple told deputies they left on vacation July 9 and when they returned Monday night they discovered the someone had pried open the home's back door. Going inside, they found their home stripped nearly bare, he said.

"It's a very odd burglary. ... It's almost like someone needed to set up their own household so they stole this family's belongings," Ponsell said.

Based on the items stolen, deputies suspect at least two people burglarized the home. …
