Smolinski Delivers Game-Winning Hit; Errors Help Suns Rally from Two Runs Down in the Seventh Inning

The RBI drought for Jake Smolinski is over.

The Suns outfielder delivered an infield single in the seventh inning Wednesday to bring home Jim Negrych with what proved to be the winning run in the Suns' come-from-behind 6-5 win over the Mississippi Braves in front of 3,805 at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville.

Smolinski's game-winner capped the Suns' three-run inning, which erased Mississippi's 5-3 lead. Jacksonville benefited from two errors in the inning by the Braves (37-59, 12-14).

Alex Romero's force out set the stage for Smolinski's game-winner. The RBI was the first for Smolinski since May 26, when he had an RBI single against the Montgomery Biscuits.

"I don't know. I don't want to talk about it," Smolinski said. "You know that's baseball. You know that you're not doing well, and you really want to help your team. The more you try to do that, the less it's going to happen."

The Suns (48-47, 11-14) scored three times in the first inning when Kevin Mattison led off with a triple and scored on Negrych's sacrifice fly. …
