CRICKET: The new-look Australian cricket squad arrived at the Sunshine Coast yesterday afternoon ahead of a demanding four-month overseas campaign.

With new skipper Michael Clarke at the helm, the 25 recently contracted players and team officials will bunker down at Hyatt Regency Coolum this weekend for a series of in-house meetings before they depart for Sri Lanka next week.

Unfortunately, fans will not get the opportunity to rub shoulders with Ricky Ponting, Shane Watson and co, who are off-limits to the media.

Instead, team members will be whisked from one room to another for a string of meetings, including contract discussions, and sessions with Cricket Australia departments a marketing, legal and operations.

They are to undergo a sequence of health-and-fitness tests and Cricket Australia media manager Philip Pope says the players will also spend four or five hours going through 12 host broadcaster rooms, doing promotional work for television and radio. …
