A FAMILY-FRIENDLY festival is taking place in the area this weekend. Headlining the second ever Deer Shed Festival will be I AM KLOOT whose genius is celebrated in the sub-heading of the event as Sky At Night - the title of the group's last album.


Gates for the second ever Deer Shed Festival at Topcliffe in North Yorkshire will open tonight for an evening of cabaret including circus and comedy performances in the Big Top.

The idea of the 5,000 capacity festival is to be family friendly and was dreamt up by husband and wife organisers Oliver and Kate Jones.

Families can make a weekend of it and settle into the picturesque surroundings of Baldersby Park before Saturday''s programme of music across three stages.

Across the weekend there is not just music but kids' activities and HEADLINING: fun themes while Sunday is the Deer Shed Festival long goodbye - chilled music, coffee, newspapers, organised kids sports, nature trails and a Sunday morning market.

After abandoning one too many festivals early because they weren''t having the time they hoped for, organisers Kate and Oliver decided if they couldn''t find the perfect festival for them and their three children, they were going to have to put one on themselves and thus the Deer Shed Festival was born.

Starting with a blank piece of paper, Kate and Oliver built their dream festival from the ground-up.

Enlisting like-minded friends, including one with over 20 years teaching and childcare experience to co-ordinate all the activities kids can get involved in, the Deer Shed Festival soon took shape - free activities, a spacious campsite, stuff to do from first thing in the morning, good old-fashioned hospitality, fantastic bands and value for money ticket price.

Somewhere to get away from the day to day grind and remember how great it is to paint, play, make things, sing, dance and have fun with your loved ones whether they''re six months or 60 years old. …
