MOTORISTS who travel from Highfields to Toowoomba are at a loss as to how a 10km stretch of road requires nine speed limit changes.

The mish-mash of speed limits has left motorists confused and some with a bad case of asign ragea.

From a 60kmh limit through Highfields' streets, it increases to 70kmh once motorists reach the New England Hwy.

Over the next 3.8km, the speed limit changes four times.

At one stage, it reaches 100kmh and 200 metres later drops to 80kmh for a school zone.

Less than 5km into the trip, motorists must slow to 70kmh as they approach a new set of traffic lights. They can then speed up to 80kmh about a kilometre later and slow to 60kmh on the outskirts of Toowoomba.

A Highfields resident who asked not to be identified said she struggled to comprehend the need for so many speed limit changes.

aDoes anyone else think this is all slightly ridiculous?a she asked. …
