Young Time Travellers; Children Bury Capsule to Mark Care Centre Opening

YOUNGSTERS have buried a time capsule with messages for children in the future. Year Five pupils from Burnside Primary School, in Houghton le Spring, carried out the ceremony to mark the development of the new pounds 21m Houghton Primary Care Centre.

They recorded their memories with descriptions of Houghton le Spring in 2011 and how they think it will look in 50 years time.

Also included are descriptions of their teachers with photos, and a school uniform.

The ceremony took place in the garden at the centre, the fourth of its kind to be built in the area.

Developed by NHS South of Tyne and Wear, working on behalf of Sunderland Teaching Primary Care Trust (PCT), the centre will improve access to health services for local communities.

The pupils were joined by Sue Winfield, chairman of Sunderland Teaching Primary Care Trust (PCT).

She said: "The children and their teachers were so enthusiastic about the project and it was lovely to have them involved at the start of a new health facility from which I hope they will benefit in the future. …
