WORK has begun on pounds 500,000 of improvements to a road leading into Teesside Shopping Park.

The Morrisons petrol station exit on to Teesside Park Drive is to be made into a dedicated sliproad to allow vehicles to join the A66 westbound without having to give way or pass through a roundabout.

It is hoped the improvements will make it easier for visitors to enter and leave and prevent motorists having to queue during peak times.

Stockton Council, which is carrying out the work, started construction on July 18.

Work is expected to be completed by mid-October, in good time for the start of the Christmas shopping season and around the 20th anniversary of the opening of the shopping and entertainment hub.

Councillor Mike Smith, Stockton Cabinet member for regeneration and transport, said: "This is a very busy route - around 15,000 vehicles can use the exit road on a busy day, more than 4,000 of them via the route behind the filling station. …
