A SCHOOLBOY has been hailed a hero after he saved a teenage girl who had fallen into a rough sea from a wall.

Jordan McGhin was battered by waves as he swam to the rescue of the 13-year-old who was in danger of being dragged under the water by strong currents.

He had been on Seaham beach, County Durham, when he saw the girl fall backwards off the wall.

Jordan, 12, said: "I was by the water in my wetsuit when I saw the girl fall in and I could see she was struggling.

"I could tell she was in trouble and needed help. "At the time, I didn't think about what I was doing, I just jumped in and tried to get to her as quickly as I could."

He eventually reached the panic-stricken girl, who was at risk of being swept further out to sea, and began swimming back to shore with her. He added: "I grabbed her and set back off again. …
