National Day Care Standards Rise; Skilled Workers Offer Better Support for Kids and Parents

STANDARDS and rules are improving the quality of early learning and child care across the country.

Ballina Byron Family Day Care Manager, Sue Lightfoot, supports the move.

She believes that changes to early childhood education and care are a step towards an integrated national framework, delivering consistency across all service types in the sector.

The new National Quality Framework outlines qualification requirements for family day care educators and staff, as well as standard family day care ratios, which currently differ from state to state.

By 2014, family day care child development officers will need a minimum diploma-level early childhood education and care qualifications.

Sue said family day care is a home-based child care service with 76 educators from Evans Head to Murwillumbah, catering for babies to pre-teens.
