Future GC Councils to Set Water Prices

IT will be up to future councils to decide on water prices after Gold Coast City councillors voted to submit a price mitigation plan for water without concrete figures.

The price mitigation plan that outlined the future direction of water prices for the next five years was approved by council yesterday in an eight-votes-to-seven decision.

The plan needed to be submitted to the State Government by today.

Under the plan, the council would keep future price rises below the consumer price index (CPI).

Gold Coast City Council chief executive officer Dale Dixon said any plan was academic because the price was already set for this year and future councils would need to make the decision on pricing.

aAll of this is academic because the State Government has legislation in place that it's the council's decision on water prices,a Mr Dixon said.
