BBC drama, The Hour, set in a BBC television studio in the Fifties, is just the latest example of our obsession with all things mid-20th century. The trend began with Mad Men and continued earlier this year when the 60th anniversary of The Festival of Britain prompted a surge in retroinspired interiors and accessories. It was helped by the relaunch of the South Bank shop, a great source for the Fifties' look.

Now Graham and Brown has introduced a Vintage wallpaper collection, which includes the Grid pattern, while Heal's celebrates 60 years of Scandinavian design, in particular Marimekko, with a big selling exhibition and pop-up shop opening in September. Fifties telephones are back but with new technology, while images of Fifties typography are being transferred on to everyday objects.

And don't be surprised to see more appreciation of the post-war look at the London Design Festival yet to come (September 17 to 25). …
