Exit Ramp Closure Hits Battling Shops; St Ives Shopping Centre Dealt Another Blow after Floods

IT TOOK nearly five months for Goodna's St Ives shopping centre to recover from the cruel floods that caused bull sharks to lurk in its car park-turned-aquarium.

But just as the car park at St Ives began to fill up with shoppers again, store owners were dealt another harsh hand.

The Smiths Rd site used to be a haven for Goodna locals.

It featured a global array of shops that catered to the suburb's diverse cultures and ethnicities.

This week, the Goodna exit from the Ipswich Motorway was closed for six months, meaning drivers will need to take back routes to access the centre.

Main Roads Minister Craig Wallace said complex construction requirements for the motorway upgrade meant the eastbound exit ramp at Goodna needed to be closed.

Staff at the St Ives' internationally famous barbershop, Fadez, which counted Israel Folau as a regular, said they had only just got back on their feet and the exit closure would hurt their business. …
