I AM very concerned at the state of Redcar High Street.

I have lived in Redcar all of my life and have never seen it as bad as this.

You know the town is in trouble when the hire purchase household appliance stores and the money lending outfits set up stall here, now we seem to have a pawn shop chain descending on the High Street as well.

Anyone with any common sense knows that when these type of shops come to town, it is in serious decline.

We now have the unwanted title of the largest number of charity shops in the area, and for a small town the size of Redcar, this is truly shocking. The 'virtual' shops speak for themselves as to Redcar and Cleveland Council's neglect for our beloved High Street.

And what are the council doing about this? Building that monstrosity on the seafront that the majority of the residents of Redcar do not want and wasting money on a centre dedicated to creative industries called the Hub.

The only creative industries in Redcar at the moment seem to be the loan sharks, never never shops and the pop shop. …
