WITH the dust having finally settled after a massive July Greyhound Racing Carnival, it is time to get back to business as usual at Grafton with a 10-event race program set for decision this afternoon.

The Wauchope to Grafton Final for the 5th graders (407 metres) is the feature event on the card.

Four heats were run at the spacious Wauchope circuit on Saturday and while there were some impressive performers in the heats, it shapes as a tricky race to assess with the majority of finalists having little to no Grafton form behind them.

Fastest heat winner was the Michael Menken-trained Lowndesy's Law which recorded the flying time of 21.60 seconds, not only the fastest time of the heats but also the fastest time of the day for the 384m journey.

The former Queensland-based trainer has recently moved to the Grafton region and he has been having a nice run of success with his small but handy team of greyhounds.

Although Lowndesy's Law is yet to race on the Grafton track, Menken is likely to have given him a alooka around the venue in preparation for this series.

One greyhound that does have plenty of local experience is the Garry Streatfield-trained Hidden Riches which, by comparison to her opponents, is a relative veteran on this track.

Hidden Riches has had 11 starts here while the other seven runners have a combined total of 10 starts on the track.

Formerly trained at Ulmarra by Ken Neave, Hidden Riches has recorded the smart time of 23.13secs for the 407m journey and with a repeat of that could well be the testing material.

If successful this would give the likable Streatfield family their first winner on the Grafton circuit.

Maiden greyhounds will also be to the fore today with three heats of the greyhoundproductsdirect.com Blue Paws series to be raced.

With very little form to recommend many of these runners the heats are difficult to assess however one runner which did race prominently throughout the July carnival was the Graeme Bowles-trained Diamintina and she will step out in the first of these heats. …
