FOR the third time in the last five seasons, Gympie trainer Barry Gill was the leading country trainer in South East Qld.

Barry was presented with the award at Nanango last Saturday. Jockey Ian Coombes, who had a very successful season in '10-'11, won the award for the leading country jockey in South East Queensland to complete a Gympie double.

Sonja Wiseman was the leading apprentice on SEQ country tracks during the season.

IN ADDITION, the Nanango Horse of the Year and premiership winners were presented with their trophies at last Saturday's Nanango races.

Nanango-trained mare Muffet and Dalby galloper, Anchor Bolt, shared the Horse of the Year honours with each winning two races on the Nanango track during the season.

The horses are trained by Anthony Greaves and Gilbert Baker respectively with Anchor Bolt winning again in the Open at Nanango after receiving his trophy.

A five-year-old Anabaa gelding, Anchor Bolt has recorded three wins from four starts at Nanango and has now won seven of his 29 career starts.

He was sold for $400, 000 as a yearling at the Sydney Easter Yearling Sales.

Muffet (Good Journey a Ice Flyer by flying Spur) did her early racing in SA, winning a Port Lincoln maiden before moving north to Nanango.

Last season Muffet won a Class B and a Class 2 at Nanango as well as a Caloundra Class 1.

Dalby trainer Gilbert Baker was the premier trainer at Nanango, winning three races there during the season while apprentice Cassie Priest won the jockeys premiership with four wins there during the racing year.

THE Gympie Premiership Awards will be presented at the Muster Cup meeting on August 20 with Barry Gill and Ian Coombes again sharing in the trophies.
