Rally Museum Hopes Should Become Reality

A COMMITTEE of local rally diehards hopes to immortalise Coffs Harbour's rally history and create an Australian Rally Museum.

As a fitting destination for next month's Rally Australia, the Coffs Coast holds a long association with the sport, spanning generations.

Museum founder Trevor Shelton hopes to see this history hon- oured, taking his concept to the community with the support of local rally and car club personalities Pip Bennett, Bob Carle and Barry Habgood.

To ensure a good idea becomes reality, they've gained the assistance of Terri Beckhouse, who co-ordinates the Coffs Harbour Regional Museum.

aThe name Australian Rally Museum was decided upon, with a goal of collecting and appropriately displaying items that have significance to the sport of rallying,a Mr Shelton said.

aAs we acquire collections, both as donations, and on a permanent loan basis, we will engage in small a[approximately]spot' exhibitions around the Coffs area to give us exposure, but ultimately we will apply to the Coffs Harbour City Council and State Government for assistance with a prominent, permanent location. …
