Geoff Dedicates Decades to Art; COMMUNITY CHAMPION

GEOFF Smith of Eungella has been organising the annual Rotary Art Show for 21 years.

The show is part of the Tweed Valley Banana Festival.

Mr Smith was born at Murwillumbah and educated at Condong Public School and Murwillumbah High School.

He worked for 12 months in a cabinet shop before being apprenticed to a panel beater at Ebbott and Fenner where he worked for 13 years.

During that time he was conscripted to National Service in 1957 at Holsworthy Army Base and spent three years in the CMF in Murwillumbah.

In 1968 he opened his own business in Prospero St, South Murwillumbah where he has operated a panel beating business for 43 years.

Mr Smith's main hobby has been car restoration being an inaugural member of Tweed Valley Vintage Restorers for many years.

He restored his own vintage Ford A five window coupe 1930 winning the Australian national concourse in Brisbane.

He played soccer with United for many years and was appointed a referee for local soccer. …
