YOUNG ATHLETE RUNS THROUGH THE TEARS; Brave Sarah Is Crowned State Champion after Mum's Death

TEARS in Heaven is a ballad sung by Eric Clapton.

You can be sure there were plenty of tears shed in heaven by a proud Maryborough mum last week.

Michelle Eckert died a couple of months before she could see her baby, her 10-year-old daughter Sarah, crowned a state athletics champion for the first time.

Michelle was only 47 when she passed away after losing a battle with cancer.

Sarah certainly made her proud with her impressive performances during the Queensland Primary Schools Athletics Championships at QEII Stadium in Brisbane.

The Granville State School student won all five events she contested in track and field.

She won the long jump, shot put and discus before starring on the track by winning gold in the 100m and 200m.

It was in the 100m that Sarah was at her best Co literally.

She produced a PB to break the state record for AWD, a red-hot 15.42secs. …
