GRAND galloper Try Some Magic has nosed out top sand track sprinter Frenardi to take out the title of Gympie Horse of the Year for the 2010-2011 racing season.

Both horses had outstanding seasons in Gympie, each winning two races and never finishing further back than second in any of their appearances at the Gympie racecourse.

The Horse of the Year award, which will be presented at tomorrow's Nolan Meats Muster Cup race day, was determined on a points system of five for a win, three for a second and one point for third. Try Some Magic earned 22 points with his two wins and four seconds from his six Gympie starts with Frenardi scoring 19 points from two wins and three seconds in five starts on the Gympie sand.

The two excel over different distances with Frenardi proving unbeatable over 1170m while Try Some Magic shows his best form from 1470m to 1600m.

The two horses met only once during the season with Try Some Magic (65 kg) finishing second to Frenardi (55.5 kg) over 1170m at the September 2010 meeting.

The duo will be seen in action tomorrow with Try Some Magic (60.5 kg) attempting to win his second successive Muster Cup and Frenardi (61.5 kg) contesting the 1030m NAB Open.

In fact, Try Some Magic's two wins last season came on the first and last race days of the season having won the 2010 Muster Cup on August 21`, then winning last month on July 30.

Frenardi is coming off a last start win in the $12,000 Gladstone Newmarket and will meet stiff opposition from the in-form Noname tomorrow.

THE Premiership awards for both trainers and jockeys were determined by the same points system as for the Horse of the Year. Kerry Munce (72 points) won the Trainers Award from Barry Gill (57 points).

Ian Coombes scored a runaway win in the Jockeys Award, amassing 65 points ahead of Shane Arnold (26),Kenne Sawyers (21) and Desiree Gill (15). …
