BILL Kemp's sense of humour, love of singing and entertaining yarns were celebrated as he was farewelled at St Francis Xavier Catholic Church yesterday.

Mr Kemp, who died at 102 years of age on Friday, left those who knew him with many entertaining memories.

Fr Stephen Hanly said he often saw Mr Kemp in his C[pounds sterling]usual seatC[yen], surrounded by parishioners, before Mass began at St Mary's Catholic Church.

C[pounds sterling]When I first saw this happening, I thought Billy was doing me out of a job, offering counselling,C[yen] Fr Hanly said.

C[pounds sterling](Everyone had their) heads down, hanging on every word Billy was saying.

C[pounds sterling]Then there came the laughter.

C[pounds sterling]There would be many of us who could remember a time when Billy Kemp has put a smile on our faces with the yarns he has told.
