NOT too many people have had the opportunity to go to somebody's 112th birthday party, but Warren Mienert and his wife Lyn did just that last weekend.

Lyn's grandmother, Miriam Schmierer, is Australia's oldest living person and her birthdays, as you can imagine, are a big deal for her family.

Being a resident of Hervey Bay for more than 50 years, Mrs Schmierer cannot believe the fuss that is made of her when her birthday rolls around each year, with her extended family making the trip to see her from various parts of the country.

C[pounds sterling]She is a very family orientated person, and she just loves having the family come together for her birthday. Though she often can't believe the distances we travel just to see her,C[yen] Lyn said.

While a 112th birthday celebration would be a memorable occasion for all involved, it was made all the more special when Warren and Lyn's 16-year-old daughter Emmy performed a song for her great-grandmother on the piano. …
