I WAS interested to read the article in Monday's Chronicle from Lyndsey Fineran about the Alnwick Castle music concert on Saturday featuring 10CC and Status Quo.

I was at this gig and to be honest I thought Status Quo were a shadow of the huge, powerful rock band they once were.

I have followed Quo since I first saw them in concert in the 1970s and this is possibly the worst I have seen them.

It looks like old father time is beginning to catch up with Francis Rossi (pictured) and Rick Parfitt, as it has with other artists such as Robert Plant, Roger Daltry and even Rod Stewart who now performs lounge music to suit his vocal range.

Rick Parfitt seemed to have to screech to reach the notes he so often in the past found with ease and as for Rossi, well he just disappeared from the mic all too often, frequently missing his cue to come back in, which made the performance look ragged.

A lot of these elder statesmen of rock find, with their advancing years, that being able to reach high, almost falsetto notes when they are in their 60s is neither easy or achievable or even just performing the songs as they did when they were in their 20s. …
