THE X Factor may be back with a bang - but who needs Olly Murs when you've got Olwyn the mayor? She may be more accustomed to cutting ribbons than records, but flamboyant civic leader Olwyn Peters is aiming to hit the high notes for charity by launching her very own album of hits.

The flame-haired first citizen of Redcar and Cleveland has swapped the mayoral mace for a microphone in a bid to boost the coffers of worthy causes close to her heart.

Her new CD, entitled Sweet Charity, will be available to buy shortly. And from classic ballads Wind Beneath My Wings and I Am What I Am to cheesy favourites such as It's Raining Men, the album showcases why the mayor really has the X Factor.

Councillor Peters is hoping to sell as many copies as possible to raise cash for the Zoe's Place Baby Hospice, Mike Findley's MND Fund and Redcar-based Coatham House, which supports homeless young people.

It's not the first time she has tuned up for Zoe's Place, having been encouraged to produce a CD back in 2004 after her rendition of Celine Dion's I'm Alive went down a storm at an Eston Labour Club fundraiser. …
