GOALS, goals and more goals - they flowed non-stop at Welfare Park on Saturday, where rampant Bedlington Terriers hit hapless Stokesley SC 15 times.

Four in the first half were followed by 11 during the second as time and time again the Terriers ran their opponents ragged.

It all started in the ninth minute and didn't end until the 90th when Stokesley welcomed the final whistle and wearily made their way to the changing rooms. In contrast, there was a spring in the steps of the Bedlington players, none more so than predator Anthony Shandran who rifled six of the goals.

Ian Graham, Tommy English and Dean Douglas each helped themselves to a brace and for good measure Steven Bowey, Steven Stewart and Chris Philipson added to the woes of the Teessiders, who have conceded a massive 32 goals in only four games.

While Bedlington's goal-spree was exciting, Newcastle Benfield quietly went about their business to rack up a fourth consecutive victory, at West Auckland Town.

The West Durham side, though, were culpable conceding a couple of penalties which were gleefully converted by Michael Chilton.

To add to their problems, West had John Parker sent off on 51 minutes and Brian Dodsworth made sure there would be no comeback with his superb individual effort on 68 minutes.

Whitley Bay are second and they too were comfortable winners when two goals apiece from Paul Chow and Phil Bell saw off Marske United's challenge. Champions Spennymoor Town opened with two draws but have found their form in the last week.

They reserved their best performance so far for South Shields who were powerless to prevent a five-goal drubbing with Craig Ruddy, Adam Johnston, Leon Ryan, Sam Garvey and John Alexander the marksmen.

Ashington were another side to suffer a five-goal mauling as impressive Sunderland RCA moved into fourth position. …
