Two-Year-Olds on Show; Juveniles Rev Up for Fitton Plate Tilt

HONOURS were shared around several stables when Toowoomba's new-season two-year-olds had their first taste of competition at Clifford Park yesterday.

Twenty-three juveniles helped get Toowoomba's two-year-old season officially underway when they contested three 400m trials down the course proper straight.

A total of 13 colts and geldings and 10 fillies lined up for the trials which were the first qualifying opportunity for next month's $75,000 Fitton Insurance Hopeful Plate (1000m) at Clifford Park.

The $75,000 September 24 Hopeful Plate traditionally launches Queensland's two-year-old racing year.

Trainer Mark Webb produced yesterday's opening heat winner when Schweiz finished strongly to win his colts and geldings division.

The All Bar One youngster reeled in the Norm Hilton-trained Bam's Boy to win by a neck.

Schweiz's winning time of 23.37 seconds was the morning's fastest.

Bam's Boy is a half-brother to 2006 Fitton winner Carry On Kosa. …
