Spate of Car Thefts Plagues Mackay

A VEHICLE stolen from Beaconsfield, which crashed into a letterbox at Ayr, is just one in a series of car thefts Mackay police are investigating.

Officers were yesterday searching for three youths who were spotted fleeing from a Toyota Rav 4, which smashed into a letterbox at a residence on Chippendale St, Ayr.

The Rav 4 was stolen from a house at Eaglemount Heights early Wednesday morning and had been seen driving erratically about Slade Point about 8am that day.

Police located the vehicle at Ayr about 5am yesterday. Despite being driven into a letterbox, the Rav 4 didn't sustain much damage, police said.

Officers are also investigating the thefts of two other vehicles that were stolen from the Mackay area over the past week.

A 1986 Holden Commodore was stolen from Milton St on Tuesday morning. Police located the Holden at Slade Point yesterday morning. The car wasn't damaged, a police spokeswoman said. …
