Students Take Part in Theatre Program; Ballina High Pupils Flown to Sydney for Acting Tuition

NONE of them had ever flown in an aeroplane, or been to Sydney, or seen a live theatre production.

So for a group of 15 students from Ballina High School, being chosen by Sydney's Belvoir Street Theatre Company to be part of its Regional Theatre Enrichment Program brought a trio of treats which has only served to increase their love of theatre and acting.

Yesterday the students were visited at their school by Megan Holloway, one of the stars of the play they saw, and Cathy Holt, who oversees Belvoir Street's educational outreach.

aThe program offers five regional schools a visit from actors and crew from Belvoir Street at their school,a Ms Holt told The Northern Star.

aAfter that initial visit, we fly the students to Sydney to see a live production and afterwards, to have a question and answer session with the actors,a Ms Holt said.

aBallina High is the first of the five schools in the program.

aNow we're doing a follow-up visit to the school, with an extensive debriefing about the play they saw and a general discussion about career pathways into theatre. …
