Balls Accuses Darling Book of 'Aiding Osborne'

ED BALLS today hit back at Alistair Darling for revealing the party's bitter feuds and revealed that Gordon Brown plotted to give him the former chancellor's job.

Confirming that he discussed replacing Mr Darling as chancellor, Mr Balls said: "There's no doubt from what Alistair's saying and from what everybody else has said and in the conversations that happened that week -- that was the plan."

A series of revelations from Mr Darling's forthcoming memoirs Back From The Brink: One thousand days at No 11 have been published on the Labour Uncut website.

Mr Balls said were benefiting George Osborne by distracting attention away from the state of the economy.

They are said to include details of how Mr Darling stood his ground when Mr Brown tried to replace him with Mr Balls in 2009 -- a plot acknowledged today by the shadow chancellor. Mr Balls said: "I made it clear in that week to people in government and outside that I thought that was the wrong plan, that I thought changing the chancellor in 2009 was the wrong decision. …
