THE Rockhampton Local Ambulance Committee now takes in the new station at Gracemere which aopened for businessa in May.

Lillian Bedford of the LAC said the committee looked after the needs of the North Rockhampton, Rockhampton and now Gracemere Ambulance stations and the fundraising directly benefited the local stations.

The local committee is one of 178 in Queensland which works with the local community and Queensland Ambulance Service to ensure their community receives the best possible ambulance service.

Pat Fitzgerald of the Gracemere Pensioners and Superannuants League said the league was pleased to see the station operational at last. She said her group had campaigned for about 12 years. About four years ago, the group had gathered about 1000 signatures on a petition, which was presented to the State Parliament by the then Member for Fitzroy, Jim Pearce.

She said she was quite sure that the pressure experienced by emergency services during the floods brought about the operational station (the building which had been set up for the purpose years before) and she welcomed the opening of the station in Gracemere.
