Ron Mueck

Born in Melbourne, Mueck's early career was as a model maker and puppeteer for children's TV and films, such as Labyrinth, for which he also contributed the voice of Ludo.

He achieved infamy with the unveiling in 1997 of Dead Dad, a rendition of his own father in death.

His sculptures faithfully reproduce the minute detail of the human body, but play with scale to produce jarring visual images.

A STUNNING sculpture painstakingly crafted by London-based artist Ron Mueck is set to be unveiled to the Ipswich public on Saturday.

The Ipswich Art Gallery will be the first regional venue in Queensland to present the super-sized sculpture titled, In Bed, by the controversial Australian-born artist.

Ipswich City Council's Arts, Community and Cultural Services committee chairman Councillor Charlie Pisasale said Mueck's work was a mesmerizing, larger-than-life sculpture of a woman lying in bed and the singular feature of this Queensland Art Gallery travelling exhibition.
