Maurice Jones-Drew relished the first time he got hit in practice during training camp, and he was just as pleased to see game action on Thursday night against the St. Louis Rams.

It was the first time since December Jones-Drew played in an NFL game, albeit a preseason one.

"I should have went 95 [yards] on one, but we'll set up for week one," Jones-Drew said.

When asked what he'd tell people wondering about his readiness for the opener, Jones-Drew replied: "If they don't see it now, I don't know what to tell them."

Jones-Drew played in two series and rushed five times for 14 yards. He was responsible for one first down with a 14-yard run to start the Jaguars' second offensive series.

"It was great to see Maurice rip off a run and bring a little energy to the sideline," coach Jack Del Rio said.

Jones-Drew suffered a knee injury in the 2010 preseason and played 14 regular season games on torn meniscus. He had arthroscopic knee surgery in January just after the Jaguars season finale. The Jaguars limited him throughout training camp and sat him in the first three preseason games.

"It feels good, having big brother out there and we're missing one more guy," Kampman said. "When we get Tyson [Alualu] back, we'll be real good."

Kampman missed the first three preseason games as a precautionary measure. He had ACL replacement surgery in the fall - his second in as many years. The injuries were on two different knees.

INJURY REPORT

Only one starter got the fourth preseason game off for the Jaguars. LB Daryl Smith didn't play and was not injured.

The Jaguars were also without RB Rashad Jennings, DTs Alualu and D'Anthony Smith, long snapper Jeremy Cain, CB David Jones, FB Montell Owens, T Eben Britton, TE Zach Miller and DE Larry Hart due to injury. …
