CRICKET: An unbroken century stand by Michael Hussey and Shaun Marsh has put Australia well on top in the second Test against Sri Lanka in Kandy.

At stumps on day two, when bad light stopped play almost an hour-and-a-half before the scheduled close of play, the Australians were 3-264 in reply to Sri Lanka's 174, a lead of 90 runs with seven first-innings wickets remaining.

Marsh (87no) will have to resume today 13 short of a Test century on debut while Hussey was not out 76 at the close.

The left-handed Marsh, 28, was composed and assured in his first Test knock and passed the 50-mark with consecutive boundaries off Sri Lanka's own debutant Seekkuge Prasanna.

He then turned to his team-mates and former Test-playing father Geoff in the stands to raise his bat and celebrate.

Hussey also passed 50 in the day's middle session but had to survive a close run-out call thanks to a full length dive to stay at the crease long enough to post his 26th Test half-century. …
