MICK Wadsworth's men are on a revenge mission as they head across the Pennines to take on Carlisle at Brunton Park this afternoon.

Ex-Carlisle boss Wadsworth lost home and away against his old club last season, with the Cumbrians running out easy 4-0 winners over Hartlepool at Victoria Park 12 months ago and then winning a much tighter return game 1-0 in March.

The two sides go into today's game level on 10 points, with Pool four places above 10th-placed Carlisle by virtue of goal difference.

And, while Carlisle have lost their last three games - two in the cup and one in the league - Pool are the side in form as they look to extend their six-game unbeaten start to their League One campaign.

"It's a great challenge for us," said Wadsworth. "We lost twice against Carlisle last season and both times our performance was below par.

"We didn't do very well there last season and that disappointed me so we need to be ready this time.

"We need to be strong and determined, believe in what we're doing and get another result to keep us moving the right way up the league table.

"They have lost a couple of games and I'm sure they're disappointed, but they have some good players and that's why they had such a good start."

The fact that Wadsworth is returning to the club where he spent three years in charge between 1993 and 1996, taking the club to a Football League Trophy final and winning promotion from what was then the Third Division, adds a little extra spice to this afternoon's game. …
