It Will Be Strange Seeing Old Boy in Hoops

ALAN PARDEW will shake Joey Barton's hand at Loftus Road tonight but confessed it will take some getting used to seeing him in the blue and white hoops of Queens Park Rangers. Barton's spat with the United board and initial refusal to sign the deal put in front of him back in January ultimately paved the way for his slow and painful exit from St James' Park. Yet from a footballing point of view, Pardew says he had no issues with the Scouser, despite some unresolved "differences" with the club in general.

Pardew said today: "There are no problems with me and Joey."

But now United could find themselves on the receiving end of a player that has used both fair means and foul to influence matches.

When asked what it will be like seeing Barton in a QPR shirt, Pardew went on: "I guess it will be strange.

"I just hope that one or two of our players don't start passing to him! …
