A TEENAGER who threatened to bash a younger boy before raping him has been spared juvenile detention, with a court hearing he was the product of a violent and abusive childhood.

The 16-year-old, who cannot be named because he is a juvenile, was sentenced in Ipswich District Court on Tuesday after pleading guilty to two counts of rape and two counts of indecent treatment of a child. Both the offender and victim were children in care when the offences occurred.

Crown prosecutor Nici Schmitt said the defendant, aged 15 at the time, indecently touched and twice raped a younger boy, aged 14, after they had returned from a trip into Ipswich together on December 27, 2009.

Ms Schmitt said shortly before the rape, the offender ordered the victim to C[pounds sterling]go to sleepC[yen].
