NORTHERN Star's quest for a fifth straight Far North Coast men's A-grade hockey premiership came to a shuddering halt on Saturday at the hands of a determined Coraki 4-1 in the grand final at Hepburn Park, Goonellabah.

Coraki was intense and opened the scoring seven minutes in when Mitchell Dunstan worked through a host of defenders and neatly back-sticked the ball into the goal past Aaron Head.

Three or four minutes later Michael Grande secured Coraki's second.

With six to go in the first half, Coraki went three up when Alex Powell got a touch on a right side pass.

Star was rattled but seemed to pick up in the final minutes of the half with five penalty corners in a row.

Star got a sixth penalty corner before the break and was still not able to convert.

In the second half it was more of the same, Coraki maintained the intensity but Star lifted and were in this half early.

Derby Bergan for Star was terrific and turned Coraki around repeatedly. …
