Tim's Timely Catch Nets Him $5000

TIM Mulhall reeled in a day of records yesterday.

It took him 20 minutes to catch a $5000 barramundi and 20 seconds to render his wife, Renee, speechless.

For years Tim has been trying to convince Renee fishing wasn't a waste of time, and all it took was a tagged fish in the Barra Bounty yesterday.

About 100 fishermen took to the mighty Fitzroy at 6am in search of the elusive 10 barramundi carrying the $5000 tags, known as the Carlton Mid Rich Fish.

By 6.20am Tim snagged his second barra, and his first winner in five years competing in the Barra Bounty.

Although he has been hooked on fishing for 25 years, he said the pricey catch awas just luck of the drawa.

But Tim is unsure how his luck will hold out when he passes the cheque to Renee.
