TOP Newcastle Diamond Mark Lemon gets a chance of glory at Sheffield tomorrow when he carries the club colours into the prestigious Premier League Riders' Championship.

Newcastle's Danish star Kenni Larsen won the event last year, with fellow countryman Rene Bach fourth.

But Lemon, whose qualifying average was higher than a few others in the actual line-up, was denied a place because of the maximum two riders per club ruling.

Now Lemon has the chance to make up for a lost opportunity, but it won't be easy for the 38-year-old Australian as he only returned to racing two weeks ago after a three-month lay-off due to complications following a broken collarbone.

Lemon can certainly ride the Owlerton Stadium track as he illustrated just last week when he top-scored for the Sapphire Engineering Diamonds with 12 points in their 63-29 defeat.

Last weekend Lemon was plagued with machine problems as Newcastle went out of the Knockout Cup in the semi-finals to Glasgow, and he has been virtually locked in his workshop all week getting his bikes in tip-top condition for tomorrow. …
