MAY 9, 2011 The Gazette describes how a criminal inquiry has been launched into people with "current or past" associations with Cleveland Police Authority (CPA), following initial advice from the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS). Authority chairman Councillor Dave McLuckie says he believes he is one of those who will be included, but stresses he has not acted improperly.

MAY 11 It is confirmed that Cleveland Police will meet the cost of the inquiry.

MAY 12 Cllr Dave McLuckie resigns as CPA chairman. He maintains his innocence, saying it had "now become clear pressures arising from the investigation could cause significant difficulties for the authority" if he were to stay in post.

MAY 26 Peter Race is named as new chairman of the authority.

JULY 29 A 42-year-old man becomes the first person to be arrested and is bailed until November. Police refused to reveal his identity, but he is understood to not work for the police or the CPA.

AUGUST 3 Chief Constable Sean Price, and his deputy Derek Bonnard are arrested on suspicion of misconduct in a public office, fraud by abuse of position and corrupt practice. …
