Season openers

2nd Division: Fassifern v Swifts, Coronation Park; Eastern Taipans v Mt Crosby, Bruce Raleigh Oval; Laidley v Northsiders, Bichel Oval; Brothers v Centrals, Ivor Marsden No.2.

3rd Division: Northsiders v Mt Crosby, Len Johnson Oval; Swifts v Centrals, Limestone No.2; Fassifern v Eastern Taipans, Dugandan Oval.

4th Division: Brothers v Marburg, Ivor Marsden No.3; Swifts v Eastern Taipans, Orange Police Club; Eastern Taipans Black bye.

Sunday competition: Taipans Black v Taipans Orange, Bruce Raleigh Oval; Northsiders v Brothers, Jensen Oval; Swifts bye.

MARCUS Hillier and Jarred Lacey have something in common as second season skippers of their respective clubs.

But the ambitions and expectations of the two could hardly be further apart as the 2011-12 Ipswich and West Moreton Cricket Association competition starts today.

Lacey's Swifts would love to avoid the wooden spoon and hope to be competitive against the rest of the teams.

Hillier's Northsiders will be disappointed with anything less than a finals appearance.

Swifts face a daunting task in their opening match of the season against Laidley.

Last year's wooden spooners face a Blue Dogs outfit still hurting from its second successive grand final loss and determined to make amends, beginning at Baxter Oval this afternoon.

Adding to the challenge is that Swifts haven't had a pre-season trial match.

But Bluebirds captain Jarred Lacey is looking at the positives.
