Jenkinson Hasn't Got the Time to Learn Fast

ARSENE WENGER'S retort to criticism of the club's summer transfer activity has been to declare, "You'll know several new names well at the end of the season", but Carl Jenkinson's is probably not one he planned to unveil quite so soon.

Gunners chief executive Ivan Gazidis claimed recently that the club embarked on a modification of their transfer policy by supplementing the purchasing of young players with more experienced individuals but Jenkinson is very much housed in the former category.

Bacary Sagna's minimum three-month absence with a broken leg means that Jenkinson is set for an extended run in the first team to continue a dramatic upward career trajectory.

The 19-year-old right-back was on loan at Blue Square Bet South Club Eastbourne Borough in December 2010 before earning a [pounds sterling]1million move from Charlton to Arsenal.

Jenkinson has since made his Champions League debut against Udinese, three Premier League appearances and a Carling Cup outing with mixed reviews. …
