HAVE you ever imagined a commute into work where you are not frustrated by late-running Tubes or buses, where you arrive feeling more awake and energised than before? Have you ever thought about getting off the Tube and onto a bike? I know, I was a sceptic when the Boris bikes appeared. I mean, is London really a cycle city? Over the years I have found myself using my car more and more, having to drive from studio to studio. But recently I have been approached by the Kensington and Chelsea council to be a Bike Hero -- an ambassador for cycling around London.

Since then, I have changed my ways and got out of the car and onto the saddle.

The first week I thought I had found the safest way to get around London with a bike, by keeping it in the back of my car and looking at it every so often. Then the guilt became too much and at six o'clock on an overcast Tuesday morning I plucked up my courage, strapped on my new helmet and cycled into work. …
