Black Sticks stun Kookaburras

HOCKEY: It was not a happy return to the international scene for Rockhampton stars Jamie Dwyer and Mark Knowles with the Kookaburras suffering their first defeat to New Zealand in 13 years.

Australia coach Ric Charlesworth said star players Dwyer and Knowles, who returned from lengthy injury, were arustya but managed to get through the encounter unscathed.

The sixth-ranked Black Sticks stunned the world's best side with a 3-0 away win in the first of the three-match series in Hobart.

Eagles fly in to Premier League

FOOTBALL: The spread of football in Central Queensland is growing with the announcement yesterday that Emerald Eagles will be a part of the CQ Premier 2012 competition.

A press release from Football CQ said the Emerald side would have teams in both the CQ Premier League and also the Premier Reserve competition.

Negotiations are also underway for the Emerald team to play some of its home matches at Blackwater. …
