It Was Love at First Site as Ellem Oval Bowls 'Em over; Spectators Endorse New Facility at Mayor's-President's Twenty20

SPECTATORS were batting for the best vantage points at Ellem Oval yesterday as a healthy crowd turned out to watch the Twenty20 cricket match between the President's XI and Mayor's XI from the newly built sports pavilion.

Officially opened by Federal Member for Page Janelle Saffin on Friday, the pavilion is already a hit with sports enthusiasts.

Harwood local Jo McMahon is a familiar face on the local sporting circuit.

Her husband Tim is captain of the Harwood cricket team and yesterday led the Mayor's XI to a dominant victory.

From a comfortable position on the upper level of the pavilion which offers a spectacular view across the oval, Jo said the new sports complex presented cricket fans with a better position to watch their favourite game.

aCricket is better when you watch it from somewhere up high,a she said.

aThe spectator gets a much better view of the game.

aI think the new pavilion is great and it's a much better alter- native to watching a game on the east side of Ellem Oval because you don't get all the afternoon sun in your eyes. …
